Baycliff:
Baycliff gets its name from the 15-foot cliff that overlooks Frenchman Bay. One of the property’s main features is the communal cliffside deck, which is shared by all three rentals: the Baycliff Cottage, the Guest House, and The Pines.
The deck sits at the edge of the property and offers wide, open views of the water, nearby islands, and distant mountains. It includes built-in bench seating and a picnic table, making it a comfortable place to sit, eat, or relax. The views from the property are stunning.
Baycliff faces northeast and offers both sunrise and sunset views, which make for great photo opportunities. Sunrises are often a guest highlight. Guests also enjoy watching lobster boats and seabirds heading out in the morning and returning in the afternoon.
Wildlife & Nature
The area around Baycliff has abundant wildlife. Guests often see seabirds and bald eagles, and sometimes seals or dolphins in the bay. Deer and squirrels are common on the property, and coyotes have been sighted along the shoreline and in the woods. At night, you can often hear owls in the surrounding woods. Baycliff is also home to several very bold and entertaining chipmunks that many guests quickly come to recognize.
Location
Baycliff is located on the north coast of Mount Desert Island, approximately 2.5 miles from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center and 5 miles from Bar Harbor. The location offers a quiet, rural setting while still being close to the park and town.

Our family has been sharing Baycliff for over 40 years, and many guests have been returning year after year. The property works well for both couples and families. We welcome pets in the cabins, because we know they are part of the family too.
All rentals are well furnished and fully equipped to ensure guest comfort and to provide a true home-away-from-home experience, not just a basic place to stay. They offer a comfortable and relaxing place to spend time with friends or family, read a book, or simply sit back and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Our cancellation policy is:
More than two weeks notice = 100% of rent refunded
Two weeks or less notice = 50% of rent refunded
We don't have a pet fee but please let us know about your pet.

The Baycliff Cottage
Baycliff's home entertainment system is nature.
Watch nature unfold in all its splendor from the comfort of the dining room table or couch. The large windows and skylights let you witness the changing character of Frenchman Bay. Watch amazing sunrises and sunsets, clouds racing across the sky, the moodiness of an overcast day or the approach of a storm. It's a never-ending story of change.
The shoreline also changes its character to the ebb and flow of the tide. There are boulders that are exposed during low tide along with the seaweed.
The spacious balcony provides a front-row seat to watch lobster boats in the bay, along with cormorants and seagulls commuting to and from the ocean. You might also spot loons and other fascinating seabirds, with the occasional bald eagle soaring overhead. Each morning brings an awe-inspiring sunrise, showcasing a different display of nature's wonders.
The cottage at Baycliff is fully furnished and features a beautiful fully equipped kitchen with stunning views. It includes two full baths, a half bath, and is equipped with a high tier internet, WiFi, and cable channels. You’ll also have the convenience of a washer and dryer. The walk-out basement is perfect for work or play, offering gaming tables, monitors, and office chairs.
There are two upstairs bedrooms and a main-level bedroom, all furnished with queen-sized beds, plus a finished basement featuring a bunk bed. The master bedroom window overlooks Frenchman Bay, allowing you to wake up to glorious sunrises every morning.
The property is shared with two cabins - one if 50 yards further up the hill the other is a further 100 yards beyond that.
Please note: The stairs to the beach were destroyed by storms in 2023, and we no longer have direct beach access. The cliffs, views, decks, and overlooks remain fully accessible and just as beautiful.

The Baycliff Cabins
In addition to Baycliff, there are two rustic cabins. These are more budget friendly
The Guest House and Pines are identical in layout and amenities, with the main difference being location. The Guest House boasts an ocean view, while the Pines is tucked further up the hill, offering a more secluded setting. Since these cabins are not insulated, we recommend bringing layered clothing if you're visiting in the early or late season.
Amenities:
The cabin itself features a wall of large windows across the front, bringing in beautiful natural light and connecting you to the surrounding woods and coastal setting.
The spacious living area features a kitchen equipped with a stove/oven, refrigerator, and sink, along with an eating area and a cozy sitting area with a fireplace. Each cabin can comfortably sleep six guests, with two bedrooms: one featuring a queen-size bed and the other offering a twin-over-queen bunk bed.
Enjoy the outdoors from the large covered porch, perfect for relaxing or cooking on the charcoal grill. There’s convenient parking next to each cottage, and we provide all linens and towels with extra blankets and pillows.
Our Friendly Baycliff Chipmunks
At Baycliff, you’ll quickly discover that you’re not the only ones who love Baycliff—our resident chipmunks do too! Over the years, several of them have become part of the Baycliff family, each with their own personality. You’ll likely meet Hoover, Dyson, and Eureka, our speedy little seed vacuums, and even Messy Marvin, the quirky fox squirrel who earned his name from the pile of husks he leaves behind. Don’t be surprised if you witness a few chipmunk wars as they race each other to the food—these tiny creatures take their snacking very seriously! One of the funniest sights is when they’ve packed their cheeks so full that they bulge comically on both sides. A single chipmunk can store an astonishing amount of seed in those pouches, and watching them scamper off with their cheeks puffed out is always a highlight.
We provide birdseed for you to enjoy feeding them, along with a tiny chipmunk-sized picnic table with a bowl in the center. Some of our bravest chipmunks will even take a treat right from your hand.
Feel free to feed them during your stay—they bring endless charm, entertainment, and delight to Baycliff. Just sprinkle a little seed, settle in, and enjoy the show!
